Indonique is the exclusive distributor for Assam Tea Company Iced Teas in the Hurricane Katrina effected areas. Assam Tea Company is an established company in the United States with two tea gardens located in the Assam region of India, Satrupa Estate (Satrupa T.E.) and Rani Organic Tea Estate (Rani T.E.). Assam Tea Company's parent Company, MKB (Asia) Pvt. Ltd. is the largest family-owned exporter of premium orthodox teas from the Assam region.
Indonique sells single malt iced tea blends. This means the teas are from the same garden within the same Estate and picked at the same time. Because of this, Indonique iced teas, like fine wines, will have a lightly different taste each season, but always vastly superior to traditional commercially available teas. Time to cup from picking is about 2 months. And because these teas have a known origin, it's much easier to ensure Estate workers are treated fairly.
Why Assam Iced Teas?Tea was first discovered growing wild in Assam India in the first half of the 19th century. Mass production by British began immediately breaking the strangle hold China had on the tea industry. Assam teas are from a tropical variety of tea plant that produces a larger broader leaf than the Chinese variety, which yields a rich malty cup that stands up well to milk and won't taste diluted when iced. The richer tea variety also tends to flavor well. All this for about the same price as the more generic commercially available iced teas on the market today.
